Welcome to Portland, OR My Friends!
OK, guys - I need help here. I always “white-knuckle it” while I drive over this bridge!!!
Can I take you all to the Cup and Saucer Cafe? I have been a frequent customer here for many years. Let me recommend that we all order breakfast (even though it's lunch time) as it's the best meal they serve!
![]() We'll get a big table! We'll all fit - squeeze in! The owner is Maryanne and she started this place from a coffee cart way back in the late 80's, early 90's … I know because I used to get coffee from her cart when I was going to graduate school at Portland State University. This place has since become a neighborhood icon. I used to live around the block and would walk over with my daughter all the time. OK, While we're eating breakfast let me share some factoids… did you know …. ????
(Here's a Pic of Porlandia that I just happen to have in my back pocket!!!)
OK … my friends - next stop is Mt. Tabor!I mentioned it above - Mt Tabor home of an extinct volcano. If you've visited my photo gallery you'll see some of my many photos that I've taken over the years. I am fortunate to live right next to the park on east side. My neighbors across the street are able to walk out their back door and right into the park. Here's a Wikipedia article about Mt.Tabor and here are some historical facts about the park/neighborhood. Every day there is something worth seeing there. Rain or shine. In the spring the park is full of love and plum blossoms every where you look.
![]() http://www.portlandground.com/archives/2006/09/office_cubicle_soap_box_d.php My day would be a lot more fun if my cube could do this!!! ![]() http://www.portlandground.com/archives/2006/09/mount_tabor_resevoir_and.php Note how brown the grass is in this picture … yes, it does get dry in Oregon too! ![]() In the fall - the color is incredible! Here's a shot of the small upper reservoir (my favorite).
I am happy to share this beautiful park with you! OK, everyone? Are you ready to back to my place? We've got plenty of space for everyone to crash inside. After everyone gets settled and when you're ready to explore some more - I'm going to take us over to Powell's City of Books!!! We could spend an entire day there (right Winnie? She has already shared Powell's with all of us in this famous blog of hers).

Re: Portland, OR and the Ongoing ROAD TRIP #1Mamakat said Feb 13, 8:17 AM:Oh Peri, I don't think I could drive that bridge either! I'm such a chicken when it comes to traffic up there that if I don't have my GPS telling me every move to make, I park my car in a Park and Ride and just take MAX everywhere. |

Valentine's Day … Portland Style It is Valentine's Day! So dear friends … I'm wondering if you would give me the honor of being my most special Valentine today? I'm going to take you all out with me this evening as my most very special Valentine Date(s)!!! but FIRST!!!! Breakfast over in the Alberta Arts District … at the Tin Shed Cafe … Check out their website… This place is GREAT! The food is wonderful and the people who run this restaurant and work here are wonderful. While we stand in line (often) we can help ourselves to coffee … and read the graffiti. I hope it's warm enough … we can sit out in the patio. Then let's explore Alberta Street!!! Then we all have to get BEAUTIFUL!!!! shopping … We will ALL go here mid afternoon and get totally pampered my friends - OK? I can't wait to see what you've all decided to wear, be, create, share with all of us for this wonderful romantic evening of LOVE …. here in Portland. Who are you going to be this evening? What outfit are you wearing and/or what persona have you chosen? for the evening … reveal yourself in all of your beauty and splendor!!! Everyone please: 2.Let us know your favorite flower and/or scent!!! 3. Your favorite flower for tonight! Tonight I'm going to take us to a wonderful, wild, romantic and enchanting restaurant here in Portland for dinner. We have reservations for (how many?) We will start our evening at the Jade Lounge Very romantic and we could easily spend our evening here … lots of food too! However, we do want to go have a real romantic dinner - don't we?This very romantic Italian Restaurant here on the south east side of town. I love this place! Il Piatto!!! Did you notice they have a Valentine's Menu??? If you want to go dancing … and check out the girls and the guys … let me make some suggestions … We could go over to the Pearl District (very happening!!!) and check out Blitz … or we could go to the Ember's … where there is a great dance floor and a wonderful show … We can dance … Or we could go to the Crystal Ballroom … Let me know your preference!!! Some of you may just prefer to go walking and skip the fancy dinner, the dancing and smoozing. Let me share the Eastside Esplanade … which I find to be very romantic and lovely in the twilight and, well actually anytime!! What a beautiful night for a walk along the Esplanade … My favorite!!! Thanks for joining me here today. |

Re: Portland, OR and the Ongoing ROAD TRIP #1Doug said Feb 14, 1:44 PM:Peri I love the look you selected for me. Yes, I am feeling white tieish and tails for the evening and by the end of the evening just in time for goodnight kisses on doorsteps with rain splatting on the overhead awning I’ll take on a more relaxed look.
Louisevi and Julia it’s so nice to see you two here on the left coast, up here in Portland with Peri ! Wow, are we dreaming or what? Here catch this one. |

It has already changed several times in the retelling :) I am sure that the Raspberry Princes would be ok if either one of us declined (though I am sure they will be sad as we are such lovely ladies!) |
