![]() Sprite and I have been exchanging blogs and comments about some emotional and behavioral patterns that we're both sick and tired of having. It was a big coincidence that yesterday our early morning blogs were so much alike! Aley discovered us and made the connection! Thank you Aley! So, we're doing some play therapy on the issue… and in the process, have been discovering that our patterns are frightfully similar! Shock and horror! Ahhhh, I bet we aren't the only 2 adult women (or men) who have these silly monkeys controlling our lives! http://artyst51.zaadz.com/blog/2007/11/my_horror-scope_for_the_week_of_november_1st_ http://buddingspritelet.zaadz.com/blog/2007/11/wanderings_on_the_ road_of_therapy_and_alone_again We want to share with you all and are offering this place here on the Play Pod as a support group of sorts. Paul has been offering a lot of support and compassion. He seems to have his monkey-shit well tended! Congrats Paul! So - this could be the start of something that needs to be done on a larger scale… but let's start by playing around with it a bit and see where it takes us! In the process of un-doing patterns… for me, I'm reminded that baby steps is the way to go. So, we are tending the roots of these little monkey demons, nurturing them and loving them. Getting to know them and letting them have a few temper tantrums and make a few messes… and like good monkey mommies and dads, we'll help them clean up the mess and maybe, maybe this time - gain a little insight and awareness. I suspect that I was born with some of my patterns, having carried them with me from past lives. Others I've learned along this long and steep and slippery highway. I sure hope I can undo one or 2 at least over the course of the rest of this blessed lifetime. I'll start with a few of my favorite monkeys - gotta love 'em! ![]() This is “One too many monkey” Sometimes after I've had an especially difficult day and sometimes even after a really great day… I find that I do a litle too much snacking after dinner. It starts off innocently enough. One wise bowl of fiber cereal w/ lo fat yogurt. Then I get that salty-crunchy thang going and before I know it - I've made a bee-line to the kitchen about 6 or 7 times. All little things and all quite healthy but it adds up! ![]() I need a hug monkey This one is self-explanatory… I feel like a little kid. Didn't know better. Shucks. Poop! That's not fair!!! |

![]() this looks so sweet and innocent - but I see beyond that and call it: “Smother Your Lover” Monkey… I've been guilty of this! ![]() It goes along with the “Fly Away Before Someone Flies From You” Monkey” ![]() Shocked that this has happened YET AGAIN!!!! Stop the Madness!! ![]() and.. then feeling small and well needing someone to hold onto… but that somone is gone. ![]() Gotta meditate and become more self aware |

You know Aley, I think a lot of people with addictions/overuse of food, alchohol, tobacco may have oral fixations and maybe there is a tie in with the nurturing we received when we were babies nursing. I read a report that babies weaned too early, have been known to develop oral fixations later in life. Was it Dryad or Peri (or you) that said we may need to go to the inner child (in this case the inner infant) and nurture it? Who did I just talk to about this… It might not have been on zaadz. They have adults role-playing at the age the “trauma” may have occurred so you have adults crawling on the floor and going through the stages of development. |

this has been a well studied theory and many of the conclusions do point to childhood. And for my own observations I would agree. |

What is to become of me? I'm a monkey in the Chinese astrology. Does this mean I'm my own monkey? And all that surrounds the monkey is me? If the monkey is me then ain't I all the monkeys that I have related to me. So If I learn who I am then the monkey will no longer exist? No because I am a monkey so then I would not exist. Dam monkeys are freaking confusing me! |

Hmmm…my dad went into the TTB hospital when I was 18 months old for a year! This was a terrible void. I was not allowed to see him except in a window, for obvious reasons…and that oral fixation sounds right…and I am glad I never took up smoking! |

Aley, I think you may have something there with your dad in the hospital during some of your formative years. The 0-5 time period in a child's life is the most critical. The problem for me is I don't remember much at all from that time. |

You're right Alya the ideal is a Platonic idea/mythology that all souls had chosen their lives according to their lots before birth and on our way here into this existence we forget everything that happened before. But it is myth just like the Freudian myth that our parents did it. There is truth in both but I like the Platonic myth because it makes me responsible for creating myself, for creating meaning out of everything that has gone into my life up to this moment. Because where I have been is who I am. You might check out the book The Soul's Code by James Hillman. |

Doug, thank you for your reply and book suggestion. Am I to understand that you don't believe we literally choose our own parents but that it's just a way of looking at life, at childhood traumas etc. in a different way? Maybe a more healing way? Did I get that right? I'm certainly all for creating responsibility for the me I am today. I like to tease my Mom and tell her everything is all her fault (not to her face, of course, that wouldn't be kind) ~ but I don't like to fall into the trap of blame. It's useless anyway. |

Hi Ayla, yes I don't literally believe it, and it resonates with me as truth. The funny thing about truth unlike fact is it can coexist with other truth that is contradictory. I also take it as truth that the things that our parents did or didn't do to or for us does cause wounding or in this context, help create our monkeys. I think it is so important to feret out the experiences that helped create these little dark monkeys and then when we find those experiences to use them to create our own personal mythology. I think that was my point in my own cryptic round about way of saying things. So life for me, is not about becoming perfect it's about learning to seeing my imperfection as being perfect. When you're in love, without the fear, how can you possibly be anything but perfect? Maybe we all get little hints, or BIG Tsunami ones when things get really bad with dem monkeys? Truth is maybe found more in shadows in the corners of a darkened room, but I don't know I'm just another traveler with my monkeys of self destruction, insecurity, and fear of rejection. |

Your so sweet peridot, but I did get the idea from the zaadz team. It may take a little trial and error, but it isn't really that hard. When making these changes make sure you save/back up your profile, blog or post just in case things go astray. If you have any questions or run into any problems don't hesitate to ask and I will try and give some better step-by-step instructions. |

Hi ayla, thanks for the complement, well I think so? But I do not resonate well to cute when it comes to referring to me. For some reason being called cute has negative feedback on me. I have talk to other girls and asked them why they call me cute and I really did not get a definitive answer. Do women find men attractive when they represent them as being cute, or is it a way of demeaning a mans masculinity? We all have are pet-peeves and being called cute has always bothered me. Cuteness (in the American English form of the word, the British English form of cute meaning clever, shrewd, or sly - stemming from the word 'acute') is a kind of attractive beauty commonly associated with youth, innocence and helplessness, as well as a scientific concept and analytical model in Ethology, first introduced by Konrad Lorenz. This is usually characterized by (though not limited to) some combination of infant-like physical traits, especially small body size with a disproportionately big head, large eyes, a small nose, dimples, and round and softer body features. Infantile personality traits, such as playfulness, fragility, helplessness, curiosity, innocence, affectionate behavior and a need to be nurtured are also generally considered cute. |
