This pod is for anyone who instructs or does Pilates or is curious about learning more. Pilates is a mind-body connection form of exercise developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 1900’s. He originally called it “Contrology” and it was based on gymnastics, yoga, and extensive anatomy research. Mr. Pilates, or Joe, had a fascinating life and he was led to develop machines to correct postural imbalances with his movement method.

Joe’s definition of physical fitness was: “The attainment and maintenance of a uniformly developed body with a sound mind fully capable of naturally, easily and satisfactorily performing our many and varied daily tasks with spontaneously zest and pleasure.”

Today, Pilates, as it is now known, is a sytem of over 500 strengthening and conditioning exercises that can be done on a mat or with variety of Pilates machines.
