Collaborate ideas with Zaadsters and the board of directors for a sprouting nonprofit organization “The Network of Change”. How best can we organize sustainable relief projects in small rural villages in Kenya? What about the large slums (such as Kibera)?
We like to think that the Network of Change is more than just another organization. Through a philosophy of responsible altruism, our people use education as a tool for reducing poverty. This means that every dollar we spend makes a long term difference.
We are proud to offer a unique chance for everyday people to reach across the world and touch the life of someone who truly needs a helping hand. Our long term goal is to establish a legacy of sustainable giving in the world.
What are we up to right now?
Our goal is to implement sustaining gardens and agricultural education programs in approximately 75 primary schools across Kenya.
Our design involves a sustainable approach to eliminating the root causes of ongoing dependence by creating an opportunity for learning, growth, and ownership with the introduction of innovative agricultural programs and economy boosting gardens.
Resulting food crops are harvested and sold to local villagers, thus providing a renewable source of income for the general school fund. Funds are used to purchase books, school supplies, and other items as deemed necessary.
Each garden includes a series of “deep beds” which are designed for accelerated, drought-resistant, organic growth. Also included is a succession of 2500 liter rain water collection/storage tanks for reserve use during drought times. In addition, ¼ to ½ acre of ground is cultivated by hand at each site.
Host schools are provided with an installation team along with the tools, materials, and guidance to manage their garden properly. In all cases, students and teachers work along side of Network staff and volunteers.
We are still in need of help to make this a reality! We are seeking volunteers who can dedicate a minimum of 8 hours per week to duties related to our cause such as:
Brochure design
Researching grants
Writing proposals
& Much more!
